On all the shows (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse) there are often plotlines or potential plotlines which were for whatever reason (actors leaving, time/money, cancellation etc) never explored.

Which plotlines, or potential plotlines, do you wish had been explored or given more airtime? And Why?

(Obviously, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse were all cancelled but what I want to know is what storylines in particular you wish could have been given airtime).

Whedonverse Q&A

So, I’ve been watching Firefly.

(And before I say anything else, I have to get rid of some Firefly squee – OMG, I cannot believe television can be this good. I am so, so in love.)

And before that, early last year, I watched Dollhouse. Now I know that Dollhouse doesn’t even come near the brilliance that is Firefly (even though, I really did enjoy Dollhouse. Especially the second season, but nonetheless, I started to think. After watching Firefly and Serenity, I began to see where Dollhouse came from. From what idea. The whole River story started to remind me of Echo and the other Dolls. It was like seeing an extreme AU of Firefly, where the experimentation with brains went to doll-creating, creating someone as a weapon or assassin. Just that the Blue Hands in Firefly aren’t quite there yet. (Thank god.)

So I thought I’d just throw that out there. What do you think? To what extent do the dolls in Dollhouse follow on from the Blue Hand’s project in Firefly?

I just think it’s interesting that Joss has had this topic on his mind so much. :p

A dead guy on the windshield interrupts a little game of calvinball. The crew boards a derelict ship from whence the dead guy came, looking for salvage first and survivors second, only to discover that the crew of the derelict was killed by Reavers. Just when they think a ship full of crazed cannibals intent on chewing their innards out is the worst thing that could happen, up pulls an Alliance Cruiser.
No problem, right? There’s just that small matter of a couple of Alliance fugitives on-board, not to mention the cargo they just lifted off the derelict without a salvage license, and the sole survivor of the attack they’ve got sedated in the Med Bay…

The gang go to buy their costumes at a new place run by a mysterious Englishman called Ethan Rayne. Xander saves money on a soldier’s costume, Buffy chooses a noblewoman’s costume to impress Angel, while Willow chooses a revealing outfit, at Buffy’s urging. She chickens out and wears a ghost’s sheet over it. Ethan is clearly a bad ‘un, since he casts a spell to turn people into their costumes. Buffy is now powerless and at the mercy of Spike, Xander is a real soldier, Willow is the Ghost of Hookers Past and everyone else is a monster. Ethan and Giles have some bad history it seems, and Giles brutally beats the spell reversal out of Ethan. This brings everyone back to normal, much to Spike’s displeasure.

How do you feel about the Xander/Anya relationship? In Doublemeat Palace, did Halfrek have a point about the way Xander treated Anya? Do you think that if Xander had gone through with the wedding, he and Anya would have had a happy marriage? If Anya had lived (*sob*), do you think they’d have gotten back together?

My sister and I got into a pretty heated discussion about them earlier (short story – she loves them, I don’t [that is, I adore both characters, particularly Anya, but I don't like them as a couple]) and I’d like to find out how other fans feel.
