The Child is Born

Fans can finally rejoice as the long awaited Whedonverse child has arrived.  Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof welcomed a baby girl on March 24th.  In a fun turn of events, this is Alyson’s birthday as well so mother and daughter will share a birthday.  The baby’s name is Satyana Denisof and something tells me she will be the only Satyana in her kindergarten class.

It’s not often the Whedonverse loses an actor, but tonight the fandom mourns for our favorite green crooner, Andy Hallet. According to E! the actor passed away last night at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, succumbing to heart failure after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side.

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends in Cape Cod, most likely over this weekend.

Even as I’m writing it I’m still in shock. Andy was very dear to Whedon fans. Who can’t help but smile when they hear him singing “It’s Not Easy Being Green”?

There’s an empty mike now at Caritas, you will be missed Andy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy’s family at this time.

In honor of Andy, I’m placing a donation at the American Heart Association and I urge other Whedon fans to do the same.

Let’s Just Call it the Whedonverse Streamy Awards

Posted by Tabz On March - 30 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

The first annual Streamy (not steamy Joss) was a star-studded event with a level of professionalism not seen for web series in the past. Whedon fans who have been following the success of Dr. Horrible won’t be surprised that it seems that main stream is starting to understand the value and importance of the web industry. To hear more of my thoughts about that check out the post I did on Social Media World.

Whedon fans will be happy to know not only did Felicia Day, Joss Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Neil Patrick Harris and Jane Espenson make off with awards, they also hit a huge nerve with the rest of their peers. My favorite was Blake Calhoun, who won best directing for a dramatic series for his show Pink, who said in his acceptance speech, “thank goodness The Guild or Dr. Horrible wasn’t in this category.” And John Stern, who accepted best guest star for Paul Rudd called the Streamys, “the first Dr. Horrible Awards.”

Maurissa, Joss, NPH, Felicia and Jane Espenson the big winners at the Streamys (photos by TheBuiBrothers.com released under Creative Commons).

So what did our Whedonverse Alumns (and Joss) win?

Fandom: Horrible Awards Results Posted!

Posted by Tabz On March - 29 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Dr. Horrible has inspired a ton of creativity. If you remember our interview with snowpuppies, she created teh Horrible Awards as a way to celebrate the innovative and slightly crazy creations that the fans have put out. The very first Horrible Awards are now in, and some of our Joss’d crew received some prizes!

Congrats to all the winners! We love when fans create and labor over a fandom we all love. Keeping Dr. Horrible going and hooking in new members to the Whedon community is what our fandom does best.

Check out all of the winners over at the Horrible Awards on LiveJournal.
