Posted by Robin Hudson On February - 27 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Over in the “Big Damn Rewatch” community at Live Journal, Collswan has posted an interesting question to fans. What was in Inara’s syringe in Firefly’s pilot episode, Serenity? Several theories have been posited and both Joss Whedon and Tim Minear have commented to some extent, but we still don’t know exactly what it is!

What do you think? Tell us here or over at the original post.

Fangbangers and Freshies

So, how many of my fellow Joss fans follow TV vamps outside of the Whedonverse? I personally have a penchant for all things vampiric, but Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel have a special place in the pantheon as far as I’m concerned. That doesn’t stop me from scanning my TiVo for new blood.

Since Buffy and Angel have gone off the air, I can name four TV shows that I think have kept vamps on the boobtube, and have certainly kept me entertained: Blade: The Series, Blood Ties, Moonlight, and True Blood.

Many Whedonites have been anxiously awaiting several mentioned DC Comics-based films written and/or directed by Mr. Whedon for some time now. But they have yet to show. Now you can find out why!

In an interview with Maxim (presented by The Geek Files blog), Mr. Whedon explains the differences of DC Comics and Marvel Comics characters. He also explains that DC Comics characters are, “DC’s heroes are from a different era. They’re from the era when they were creating gods.”

Well, with the script and film for Wonder Woman scrapped, you can see where he is coming from. Maybe some day the Film PTBs will realised just how good a Whedon-DC Comic charater movie would be!

Read. Analyse. Enjoy!

A Professional Recruiter Thinks Barney Stinson is Awesome

Posted by Tabz On February - 25 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Over at the AskBinc blog, professional recruiter Boris Epstein, dissects Barney Stinson’s video resume and gives practical tips on how you too can be awesome.

Boris explains:

We are beginning to see an incredibly candidate-centric marketplace, meaning quality talent is in abundance and people need to start being creative in order to set themselves apart from the rest. One way to do this is by creating a short and sweet video resume that could really provide the employer with an extra bit of insight into your abilities. By doing this you are setting yourself apart from the crowd and taking a step ahead of the competition to get your foot in the door of their company.

How better to do this than with a video resume, much like Barney’s!

The company P’s Dollplay Enhances the Dollhouse Experience

The Stockholm based radical production outfit The company P is collaborating with Joss Whedon and 20th Century Fox Television to create an interactive drama to augment their latest show, Dollhouse.

The online drama Dollplay (www.rprimelab.com), follows the story of the young girl Hazel Rose (Hailee Araya), trapped in a mysterious laboratory. Almost every day several new webisodes will appear online. Anyone in the audience can record their own video and reply directly to Hazel, with the click of a button. Together they help Hazel solve her mother’s disappearance and face the problems that occur in the lab.

“Hazel’s response to the audience, is shot during the night, with the new videos published the very next day! This has never been done anywhere in the world,” says Christopher Sandberg, CEO of The company P and executive producer of Dollplay. “We dare you to jump into the Dollhouse universe headfirst. There is a very complex outline for the story and we won’t let Hazel off easy. She is at the mercy of the audience,” Sandberg explains.

The company P is a Scandinavian production house whose founders have decades of experience with interactive entertainment and participative arts, and came together three years ago to coin a new kind of online entertainment: “participation drama.” Their recent collaboration with SVT, Sanningen om Marika, won the International Emmy Award for Oustanding Interactive TV Service.

“This is our first project with Hollywood, and we’re really excited to play around with the American audience,” say Lead Designer Martin Elricsson and Lead Writer Mike Pohjola, who founded the company together with Sandberg and CTO Staffan Jonsson. The Dollplay project is a first between The P and FOX, and explores new ways to truly involve the audience in the drama of a television show. “We’ve always pushed the envelope and been seen as experimental and strange”, muses Pohjola. “With the Emmy and now this project, we’re really in the forefront.”

The interactive star of Dollplay is Hailee Araya, a Swedish actress of Ethiopian descent. Her career is picking up rapidly. After Dollplay she’s set to be the lead in a Hollywood project for the big screen. Dollplay is directed by Hugo Lilja.
